head gasket info
ok im building my motor and want to start with a head gasket even tho it dont need it i want to go with a hks HG but i dont no what one to get there's tons of them i dont really want to change the stock comp and my motor is all stock what bore size do i get and thinkness

well you wont order your hks hg until you find out how much your machinest took off your head. he'll let you know how much he took off.

I hope you are reading your factory repair manual well???
Titan Motors Sports is big on Supra after market parts. I recommend using an after market steel head gasket and head bolts by ARC. Titan can help you with the thickness after you tell them how much the machine shop removed. Check the block for trueness. Be sure and use Loctite or other like material on the crankshaft pulley bolt and proper torgue. Dan_______________________________________________ ____________________ Quote:

Head gasket info
I'm in the middle of a 7MGE rebuild (you can check out my thread on this form) and have learned not Head gaskets are alike. The factory gasket that lasted 20 years had copper crush rings around all the water ports. I purchased a complete engine rebuild kit from the shop for $200 and the head gasket did not have the same crush rings as the OEM
So I checked out the gaskets from CAR Quest and NAPA and they all have the same OEM crush rings at $85 for just the gasket. I am going to toss the one from the kit and pay the extra $85 since I don't want to do this job for another 20 years. |

Good idea... always inspect your gaskets before you install them. As you correctly assumed, those crush rings are there for a reason. Have you checked out how much a Toyota gasket will run you? If it's just a little bit more, that'll be the way to go if you don't want a metal one

this is not helping me at all all i want to no is what bores size to get and thinkness nothing els im thinking a 1.2 hks i just need to no the bore size

At the very least, use the "Search" feature to find that info.

ok the guy i got it from put a brand new head on it so i dont no if its ben shaved so i just want to go with the most stock size mhg thats all i want to know and the bore size

Head gasket options
Don't metal head gaskets require a perfect finish on both the block and head to seal correctly? I had my block out so I could have the deck shaved and the shop still would not recommend going to a metal head gasket. Seemed that over the years water/coollant eats away at ports so that even a good shave will not it get right.
before block prep after block shave Unless you going to remove the engine block grind the block deck to perfection - i'd go with a composite gasket. It will be much easier and last 20 years |
