Lightbulb 2jz conversion- tranny link up?...

well i was contemplating puttin a 2jz in my 86', cause i can get a motor for cheap, and my 7m has a bhg, so i thought spend money on a 2j rather than the 7m lol...

i was jus wanderin, can the 2j bolt up to the original mk3 5speed box???

or if i can get the 6speed with the motor...are the box mounts the same like the engine?...or do i have 2 customise??? lol

You can use the R154 five speed from the 7m if you use the 1jz bellhousing. You can find one on driftmotion.com.

I think you can i just don't remember how, maybe someone else will chime in. It would probably be easier to use the R154 though. I will come back on if I find anything out about it.

ok...i hope they are the same mounting points for the gearbox mounts, that would awesome, cause then the motor and box will bolt straight into the car, n i guess i would only hav 2 worry bout the tailshaft and wiring
6 gears will b that lil better than 5 i guess hahaha, n not 2 mention it will b that lil bit stronger.
thanks for your help dude,

yer if any1 has any ideas plz let me know...

I'm pretty sure that I've read on this forum that the gear selector is farther back than on a R154 or W58, which means at the very least you will have some metal cutting to do to make it fit

but just so i understand you...the gearbox mounts from the 7m box to the 2j box should b the same?...but i might just have to customise the hole in the floor for the shift because it sits further bak???

Actually, I'm not sure on the mount locations either. Most people seem to decide that a 2JZ/6 speed swap is not worth the time, labor, and frustration. Not the most popular swap in a MKIII, which is why you're probably finding it hard to find any information on it.

oh ok...i thought everyone would have put the 2jz box in when they put the engine in since it is stronger with an extra gear etc.

but thanks for all your help.
...ill have a little bit of a research session lol, ill see if i can find dimensions for the v16x box and compare with the w58
and ill post my find...just incase some1 else wants the 6 speed

also i have another question you mite be able to help me with.
do the N/A 7m engines have different intake manifolds to the turboed engines? because ive got the hole for the NOC sensor in the bak of my head and my intake has a couple of metal plates that block off holes...i was wandering if all intakes and heads on a 7m N/A have this...or was my motor a turbo'd 1 and some1 has taken it off and plugged it up?
