Default 1jz-gtte

I have a 7mgte engine in my supra now and its blown. I am going to swap it to a 1jz engine and was wondering if my tranny from the 7m would fit on the 1jz engine ??? If not what are the possibilites i could do without having to buy a tranny???? Help PLEASE!!!!

hey mate.
i want to do a 2jz conversion, and i asked if i could use the 7m gearbox.
and one answer i got was that it could work if i used a 1jz bell-housing.

so from that answer im guessin that a 7m box will fit up 2 a 1jz, im just not sure about the shaft length inside the boxes...if they are all the same or not.

I have an 89 supra and want to put a 1jz twin turbo in it and was wonderin if any body knew the best thing to do for the ECU and wiren harness cas i aint sur how different the 1jz and 7m are

I'll answer both questions on this thread from my experience with a 1j swap.

The 7m trans will fit on a 1jz, only if first, you have a 1jz bell-houseing, and second, if you have the R-154 transmission. the W-58 won't match up to the 1j bell-housing.

Evant: As for wiring and such, because the 1jz uses individual coil packs, you'll need to either use a 1jz wire harness and ecu, and convert it for the ma70 chassis, or use a 2jz wireharness and ecu, which is a lot more work to convert to work in a ma70 chassis. The 1j harness is usually easier, though you have to extend it about 3 feet due to differences in the Japanese and USDM car's.

Yeah, I've done a 1j swap into my 87. The biggest mistake I made was ordering my engine from Tiger Direct. Biggest ripoff artists ever, and it was such a headache getting all the parts I needed.

1jz-gte swap (Currently spun #3 rod bearings), Apexi high flow filter, Greddy thrust 3" downpipe, N1 3" catback with cat delete tube, 1 peice driveshaft, Bar and Plate intercooler, and 440 JDM 2jz injectors.

Possible 2jz lower block swap in the works if I can't rebuild the 1j. So troublesome.

I think Tiger Direct could be the same place I was thinking of buying from

either way I have another question
would the turbos come with the engine and if this is the same place what kind of troubles did you have?
i was also wondering if I should just go for a 2jz but I can't even find one for a Supra on the site

My story with tiger is long and boring, but in short, i was missing parts and it looked like my motor had come from a junkyard and parts were pulled from different engines to make mine. and expensive stuff was still missing, (ecu, wire harness, flywheel.)

My advice, find a reputable company that you can get a BBS report on, and make sure all of the major stuff you may need, (ECU, harness, turbos) you can replace easily with either custom made parts or aftermarket parts.

As for the 2jz. in the end, the only thing that makes that swap so hard is that the ecu wiring is majorly different from the 1jz swap. Essentially, if you're computer savvy, it really shouldn't be that hard, unless you're trying to use the 6 speed V-160, then hoorah for you, i wish u luck.

Feel free to ask any other questions if you do the 1j swap, it's a great engine really, with plently of US parts support if you know where to look.

do you know any other sites?
it is very tempting to just use Tiger as it seems so easy
something sketchy I found though was that I searched for a 1jz and I got a Tiger site with almost the same lay out and almost identical names
one is jdmtigerjapanese and the other is just tigerjapanese
kinda seems like one of them could be fake
do you know which one you used?
I really wish I could just get some positive feedback for this site. lol

and to ramble on I would just like to ask whether this is a good idea or not.
I am not the most experienced mechanic. I am still in school and this is my first car but I want to do the swap.
so I thought it may be a good idea if I drop the engine myself and then tow it to a shop and get them to do all the connections like wiring and stuff
the last thing I want to do is screw up my Supra
I haven't even gotten as far as finding a shop that would do this

sorry if im a lil off topic here but i just bought a 87 supra shell (no engine) i would like to know what is the best engine to put in? i was thinking the 1jgtz but what would be the requirements? is the wiring the same, would i need a intercooler, etc.. first time working with toyota.. did plenty of engine swaps on hondas never on toyota tho.. seems kinda tough but i can work it out with some help plz.. thanx guys!!
