power windows on mk3 supra (89)
hi. i have a 1989 supra, and it has p/w of course. the driver side works, but the passenger doesnt work. i hear that's typical of mk3 supras.
its obviously not the fuse, the 'Gauge" fuse operate the p/w as well, and the driver side works, doesnt work if the fuse isnt in. im not sure if its a relay, or if i have to play with the circuit breaker. can someone help me? thanks. aaron. |
Passenger side window problem
I have the same problem with my 87. Tried connecting the battery directly to the pasenger window motor and was able to make window go up and down. So I figured the motor and regulator were fine. Must be electrical.
Read a couple posts here and looks ike it is probably the main power switch driver side. Wierd cause the driver window works fine. Still have not pulled it out, tho I heard they are hard to fix and you have to try buying a used/new one. HTH |
had a similar problem, my drivers side had no control over passanger side, and then i changed the switch, and then i got full control over passanger side for about 2-3 weeks, now i can only make it go down from my side...
good thing i dont gotta ride bitch... |
The contacts inside of the switches get built up with carbon and after a while it becomes excessive. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined you can take the switches apart and clean the contacts with some fine sandpaper or a green scouring pad.... it's not a difficult operation; I did my master window switch last week. I had to clean the contacts on my master switch a couple years ago too... I'm sure it didn't need so much attention when the cars were newer; The fact that this occurs more frequently now that they are older has me stumped. At least it isn't a difficult project and once you've done it one time it's quick and easy thereafter. |
