Real Quick bhg Q???...
hey ppl... i know that there is about 1000 bhg threads...but i jus wanted to know real quick...wat is the proper torque settings for when im putting my head back on?
cause some ppl say 70ft-lb, others 65ft-lb...and my manual says 58 (but we all know that is the wrong setting hahaha) so if some1 could please clarify this for me ohhh...and my motor is a 7mge, and im using a standard type head gasket. thanks in advance |
I bought new head bolts even though these arnt tourqe to yield and with some moly lube tourqed to 70 then let it set overnight and came back and tourqed to 70 again if you go to the arp bolts then you can go higher and if you go to the arp studs even higher but for a stock 7mge with reg hg and reg bolts I recomend getting new ones from toyota like 60 bucks but keep you washers cause the new ones dont come with washers Id do 70 again But alot of people say go higher. I just didnt feel comfortable going any more than 70lbs hope that helps

Torque to 70. You may reuse the original bolts, but you need to check them for stretch as outlined in the TSRM. As with new fasteners you may want to retorque them after a few heat cycles.

thanks both of you for your help...
im glad some1 could clarify that for me...now... ...im off to start cleaning all my parts and make things all pretty while i wait for my vrs kit to come in. =] |
Stud torque
Just put ARP Studs on mine and troqued to 90 pounds no problem. ARP Bolts are $90 and troque to 78 pounds

Bolts
Another thought - I had to buy new bolts because the BHG leak distroyed some of the old bolts. If any bolts are not in NEW condition - replace the set
