Default to shimm wastegate or not to shimm that is the ?

just got a 87 supra not to long ago. im poor so dont have much money to make faster. heard of trick shimming wastgater is it real unsafe or would it work just for alittle bit more thats all i need? any help would be great thanks

Read post 3 Link mine has 3 washers (not sure of the thickness) with the front cat removed I'm getting 11psi. If I remove the second cat also, I will hit 14psi and then the engine light will come on indicating fuel cutout. I prefer to leave the second cat on due to the exhaust noise and to protect the engine from any unnecessary damage. (Head Gasket)

well i just did it.. we'll see what happens tomorrow. i put threee washers on. hope it will be noticable. dont want alot of it just alittle. thanks man for ur input

well been driving it for awhile now. have to say pretty damn fast and just above fuel cute off. diff worth it. didnt need alot just alittle bit more. plus funn to doo. so anwser to shimm is to yes

Shimming the wastegate is a terrible idea, a crap practice and something which needs not be encouraged. You reduce the lifespan of the wastegate and you reduce it's range of motion creating a potential for boost creep and possible damage. It's an old hack which was poorly thought out from the very beginning.

Just build a manual boost controller. They're damned cheap and they're tunable.
