Loud Clicking Noise!!
Alright well I recently had the HG replaced, twice. Now that I got it back the 3rd time it has a loud clicking noise near the exhaust manifold. When I do a cold start(its like 60 degrees outside) I see whitish smoke coming out of the top of the engine, I'm not very good with cars, but I do see that above the heads, I'm guessing its the exhaust manifold, it looks like its not on very tight, and I see white smoke coming from it. When I rev the engine it gets louder, and louder. It's not overheating, and the oil isnt milky. I'm so confused!! ahh! help!!!

It's possible (see: VERY common) that one or more of the exhaust stud's threads in the head gave up... in which case helicoiling will be required. Hopefully, that's not the case. Did you tighten the nuts on the studs according to spec? 29ft lbs, IIRC? Did you replace the manifold gasket?
Our cars tend to run very rich, so when the car is still warming up you should check if the smoke smells like fuel. It sounds like an exhaust leak to me as well, the cause is all that remains and pulling the manifold back off is the only real solution. |
