1989 Supra N/A : GTE> Need Help
Hi everyone and thank you for all of your help with all of the other problems i had a couple years ago. I come back to you all after being a hardcore supra owner now i face a new challenge. My supra has a N/A motor and after getting a new GTE with ecu and harness is there going to be any issues when trying to swap/convert it over to turbo? Also I am going to do W58 swap while everything is stripped out of car... so thats part of the equation. This is the only forum I stay on and am hoping you allcome through

You need: Oil cooler (preferably a custom full-flow setup as the stocker is garbage), the same year engine harness and ECU as your car is HIGHLY recommended as the dash harness also has to match, clutch, drive shaft, intercooler and piping, ALL electronics (AFM, Igniter, coil packs), lines for the R154 clutch, motor mounts from your original engine if they are a different style, GTE fan and fan clutch are highly recommended.... I'm sure there are a few other things that I'm forgetting, I'll post back if I think of anything.

Thanks Cre,
I got everything you said with a W58 trans tho and electric fans. For that igniter does it have to be off of a 7mgte. also is there any little parts that go for the GTE_(electronics, switches, relays, valves) My supra is an 1989 and the turbo motor i got is from an 89 :-) so the harness and ecu are most likely good ++ Last edited by .Andrew.; 11-13-2009 at 10:40 PM. |

Hey, not trying to hijack tha thread Andrew but i have a related question.
Cre...I have a 86.5 that i want to swap a gte motor into, since no turbos were made in 86.5 will a 87 or 88 harness work without many issues? Thanks |

The dash harness is pretty much the same as the 87 and 88.... you should be just fine there. It's the same deal as swapping a 87 or 88. |

[QUOTE=cre;74951]Yes, it requires the GTE igniter. The relay's and fuses are largely the same but you'll also need to swap in the injector resistor pack from a GTE as the 89 N/A didn't use one. The 89+ N/A's used high impedance injectors where all the rest of the MKIII's used low. Trying to use low impedance injectors on a high impedance ECU will destroy either the injectors or the ECU. I can't think of anything else right now.
Thank you again Cre. Looking for the igniter now. Im going to see if i can get the high impedance ones from RC. The 7MGTE i bought has the fuel rail w/ injectors too. so if i cant afford the RC will those work? |

Dont trip camdaddy we should all be on this forum to give/take what we know and help others learn. I think its retarded when people try and get "forum territory"...

Don't even bother looking for high impedance injectors. The GTE electrical system (ECU and harness) is built for low and low is the most common. Just get the low and make sure you get the resistor; You can get the resistor from any 7M-GTE or any pre89 7M-GE vehicle.
