Make sure the cam gears and the crank pulley are aligned at 0°. Then:

Locate the CPS with the cam pulleys as sown below, assuming you have already re-installed the can belt with the crank pulley set at zero (# 1 piston at top dead centre) and cam pulleys as in photo. Line up the hole and notch as marked with the red arrow on the CPS and insert into the head. You may find when the gear engages with camshaft helical gear the CPS shaft will rotate, I removing mine a few times to double check it hadn’t moved before nipping up the adjusting bolt. Its also worth replacing the O ring Toyota part # 90099-14018

Thanks for the correction Bill! It's been quite a while since I've dealt with this.

Hopefully this gets sticky'd. There seems to be some debate over WHERE the oil comes from. I'm here to settle this once and for all, as I am tired of replying over and over again to this simple problem that anyone can repair very easily.

First of all, many DOHC engines have spark plug well seals. This, however, is not the case on the 87-92 7M engine.

Please refer to my custom diagram. When it says (color, shape) that is what I'm talking about. Pretty straight forward.

I believe you posted in the wrong thread. EDIT: If you're referring to needing a sticky about the leaking valve cover seals it is the #1 sticky already... don't know how complete it is though, never read it myself. ;)

The 7M does have a plug galley seal/cover... the problem is that over the years the rubber's dried and usually rotted away and as such the only good it does is to filter out larger debris. Still, it's only a stopgap.

you should definitely use a new O ring on that CPS . if not you will leak oil from that spot . small but it will leak

I'm sure it was Ihatehacks' diagram, not yours. Oh wait, you just copied his post (minus said diagram) and posted it here for some reason... What the heck, welcome anyway... :rolleyes2
