wheel offset
I am purchasing a set of Alloys from ebay
SIZE: 8.0x18" 5x100/114 ET45 I own a Turbo MKIII - the supplier wants to know if my model has the bigger front brakes? I think my car is 5x114 35to42. So the bolt plan and diametre are fine. What about the offset? |
Unless you've upgraded them yourself, no. All models used the same calipers. Hell, even if they were one of the more common upgrades 18" would clear just fine.
|
Bolt pattern PCD 5 x 114.3mm Offset 35mm-38mm Centre Bore 60 mm The larger the offset the more the wheel will sit under the wheel arch.. The stock saw-blade wheels are 37 offset. I did have a set of MK4 5 spoke with 50 and 45 offset not only did they look wrong I found the steering very twitchy. I now run with 18 x 8.5 Front and 18 x 9.5 Rears, offset 35mm. What ever you decide; make sure you have the correct bore or order the correct spigot rings. 60.10mm will fit perfect.

The you go Link before and after.

Another term for the center bore adapters is hub centric rings or hub centric adapter rings (may be a North American colloquial term)... and yes, they are important. Also, rims with a smaller center bore than Bill mentioned will not work on the car without machining or.... <gulp> spacers to serve as adapters (not recommended).

Thanks Lads
I'm not going to use spacers. I will have to keep looking till I find a set I like that come in correct OFFSET |
Tell them you have larger brakes, in case you do want to upgrade the brakes down the road.

How ever these wheels will not fit your car as the the wheel does not have enough X Factor (The space between the inside of the spokes and where the caliper meets on the front brakes, I have other split size options that would suit your vehice if they are of any interest? I am looking for a gloss balck set of 18", would like staggered with wider on the back. I like single 5 spoke. |
Right I have found a set I like. OFFSET, BORE etc is spot on. Should I go:
8.5x18" Front 9.5x18" Rear or 8.5x19" Front & Rear |
I am not entirely sure on all these different specs to match up the correct wheels and the vehicle. I have an 87 Turbo and I find it very hard to find wheels that I both aesthetically like and the specs to match.
I want to get a set of the new Enkei GTC-01's and I found the size with an offset of 35mm and correct bolt pattern however the enkei website lists the wheels at the 75mm bore diameter and not the "ideal" diameter of 60mm as cited above. Will this still work on an 87 supra? |
Hubcentric rings... read: http://www.prestigewheel.com/Catalog/HubRings66_67.pdf

What I need to know: the stock wheels are 16" if I'm right, what will 19" look like and will they make for a bumpy ride since I will have to go low on the profile of the tyres, will there really be a noticable decrease in acceleration are 18" just right and a good compromise between style and speed should I just go for 19" they look sweet |
^ Thanks for the response. And I was also wondering the same thing between what size wheels to go. It's up for grabs between 17s and 18s for me though. I want a nice combination of performance, durability and ride quality, and looks. I live in New England where the winters do some damage on the roads. I want to be able to drive around comfortably without fear of my wheels dying on me.
