Gas Pedal Problem
I have an 89 supra thats in fairly good condition. i find that the gas pedal is to close to the floor and doesnt allow wide open throttle. my mechanic sed it was fine but im used to the gas pedal being about the same level with the brake pedal. Is this normal in a supra and if not what can i do to adjust it?

Can you lift the pedal up by hand at all? If you can move it a fair way then you probably have too much slack it the throttle cable, this is fairly simple to fix. Just unhook the clip where the cable outer secures to the stop under the bonnet, remove the slack (leaving a couple of mm to ensure the throttle can still close fully) and reinsert the clip into the appropriate groove.
If you can't fix it by adjusting then most likely the cable is damaged or wrong for your car & should be replaced.

No i cant move it up only down. The gas pedal itself has some free play but my mechanic said thats because theres a spring located behind it and thats normal with powerful. But i work in a parking lot and every fast car i drove doesnt have that. The metal piece that connects to the pedal has left a mark on the carpet indicating to me that it to close to the floor. Any other suggestions?

The pedals do not line up; it was like that from the factory. The only reason any of the pedals would be even closer to the ground is if the arm is bent. I believe there is approxamately a 1/2" offset between the gas and brake pedals.
If it isn't bent and you floor it and the throttle plate doesn't open 100% then you may need to remove slack from the throttle cable (there is supposed to be a little, but not much) or you may need to adjust the linkage which mounts between it and the throttle body. |

Thank you. This has really been helpful. All in all even with a lil tap on the pedal the car moves! I bought the car completly stock. Im working on restoring the car then looking into performance. I want to leave the body and interior untouched for that classic look.
