finishing up my 5spd swap and rebuild..help?
so i finished just about everything on my 88 turbo and i'm getting ready to fire it up however i am having a problem with the neutral start. i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix that. i'm sure i can figure it out with enough time poking around on it but some help would be awsome to help speed it up.
Thanks Matt |
[strike]Care to be a little more specific? Have diagnostic codes indicating the NSW? Just can't get the engine to turn over? Starter won't crank at all?[/strike]
EDIT: There I go... speed posting before running out to dinner... missed the whole 5 speed part of the swap thing. Durrr.... Sorry. |
Simple. Find the neutral safety switch, cut the wires at the connector, and splice together, completing the circuit.
The neutral safety switch was on the passenger side of the transmission with a three wire connector. The two prongs that are parallel to each other are the connectors for the safety switch. One wire should be black with a blue stripe, and the other black with a white stripe. Cut these two wires and splice them together. This from the TSRM. There used to be a sticky for it. |
thanks a lot i got it taken care of and got it cranking but now im having issues with my timing. i thought i had it dialed in but now i think i am a tooth off on my cps?
thanks a lot matt |
thanks again for all the help i got a chance today to take my 88 out and play! it was awsome i couldn't happier with the results of the tranny swap and engine rebuild. I realized i had for got to fill my tranny back up sense the install where i lost quit a bit but as soon as i get the oil back in it, it should be smooth as glass!
Oh one thing that happened to me today while i was driving is i was approuching a intersection i pushed in the clutch to coast in to the corner and the car died on me, it fired right back up but it was a little unnerving any ideas on what it could be other then just a fluke? Thanks Matt |
