HELLO I was just going to ask you a few questions
I have a 1988 n/a automatic with the 7mge, I was wantin to know is the 7mgte a good motor to swap to?? does it have alot of aftermarket support, also is it hard to get 300 hp out of it? and how hard is it to swap the 7mgte in my car? what do I have to mod?? how much does the intire swap cost? were can I get a complete 7mgte with low milage? sorry for so many question but I want to learn as much about this swap as I can before I attempt it!!! |
Well, if you want a good engine, go for the 1jz-gte. It's a much better engine that the stock 7m-gte. You can find them for about 1000. It all depends on how much money you have to spend. Go for the gusto my friend.

Yes, but swapping in a 1JZ isn't easy since the intercooler and piping are different. Trying to get 300hp out of an N/A is going to cost you more than going with a turbo, and it will be a lot more time consuming. You'd have to do a complete teardown of the engine, and do a lot of internal work. On a turbo, it's mostly a matter of intake, exhaust, and more boost and fuel.

listen to dcru supra,1jz all the way!

I dont mean get 300 hp out of a N/A I meant out of the 7mgte sorry for the confusion.. I whould love to have a 1jz but I am lookin to spend about 1500$ |
what cars did the 1jz-gte come in?
|
They're no where in America. From what i can remember they are in 1990 Supras in Japan and Aus areas. On almost every site that the 7MGTE is sold the IJZ is too.

HAving an NA Supra and tring to make it turbo isnt the best may to go. Get a turbo modle. The 7MGTE is more than capable of making 300hp. Mine is making 265hp with very little parts and relitivley low boost. The 1JZ swap isn't the easyest to do and the motors are getting old and hard to fine. But they are much stronger than the 7MGTE motor. Like I said get a Turbo modle, doing a 1JZ swap will be much easier. Also you will needto find one 89-92 the subframe is different as well as the mounts.

bah, the 1JZ has twin turbos, get a twin turbo manifold for your 7M and waste a 1JZ  Seriously though, 1JZ's are nice, but if something breaks, finding parts for it is going to be VERY hard. The 7M can be made stronger, and has more potential (no replacement for displacement).

Re: Swap
Bore Out Your N/a And Add A Supercharger...more Power No B.s. With Swaps, Turbo Lag, Ect
Displacement Is Where It's At! |

Yes, but in the end, 1JZ parts are still a major pain to find parts for over here, you'll have to have a lot of them imported, and don't even try a dealer for em...

You can easily get the 7mgte to produce 300hp the block is capable of 900hp factory and the buttom end can hold about 550hp w/ out doing anything...and u can find full motor swaps on ebay (motor , wiring harness, comp. w/ 35,000-50,000miles on them w/ warntiys) there only about $850.00 and another $250 for shipping and handling. I LOVE MY 7MGTE ...of course anything feels good at 22psi.
PS. you can find any parts you'd ever want for these motors |
I would do the 7MGTE swap. Alot easier to do than the 1JZ and I plan on doing a 7MGTE swap also by April. You can easily get around 300hp to 350hp with the same price it would cost to just put the 1JZ in. Its best to get a front clip especially since u got a 88model. I just need to find a R154 with drive shaft. Just my input (not bad for a newbie huh).

hey sorry I have been missin 4 a while. I have decided to go with the 7mgte since it is easier to find parts 4. now all I need is links to websites were I can find EVERYTHING I need to swap my 88 N/a to a 7mgte in one sittin... :) why I am at it I want to convert it to a manual, I think it whould be a waste to drop the turbo motor in and hook a automatic to it dont ya think??? so should I get a front clip with a manual attach to it? do they even have those or am I dreamin agian :)

Engine swap
Ok guys so if he does the swap, and he has a 88 NA. Just out of curiosity, if I have a 88 Na stick shift, and want to put the 7mgte into my car, do I have to run piping differently or is it just the direct bolt in and then a matter of an ecu, and connecting shit or do I have to change any part of the tranny?
Thanks John |
