upgrading intercooler and pipes: General Questions
hello guys. OK here is something I just wanna bounce off a couple people because I actually have no experience in this department. as I before mentioned upgrading your inter cooler is paramount before adding any other serious numbers, so taking my own advice (I know I'm not the first one to say this but I don't wanna be made a hypocrite) I'm purchasing a larger inter cooler and pipes for it. first question with my new 25X12X3 inter cooler with 3" delta fins (wtf are those!) what sort of fitting issues are going to come up. Will that even be able to mount and allow use of my stock bumper? how hard is it to re locate an oil cooler? (yes getting a larger one but lets skip that part for now) and now onto the pipes.. A universal 3" piping set with couplers and so forth. will that mount onto w/e stock pipes I have left. My basic question is with a larger inter cooler (3" outlet/ inlet) and 3" piping what other things do I need to replace on my stock 92 7mgte? will these even work without tons of fabrication work?
and what exactly is the routing the stock inter cooler pipes? I think I covered them all. expect edits within the next 5 minutes. as always, thanks in advance Regards green7mgte

Your best bet is to take off the front bumper and take a look at your existing set up. From there you can pretty much visualize what you need to do, to fit your larger intercooler.

would like to get my specs in w/o dissembling if its at all possible.
right now im trying to find a set of pipes that would work. going 2.5 instead of 3. smaller is better fitting. Anyone know the pipe specs for a 2.5 inlet/outlet inter cooler.. how many pipe bends of what degree, that sorta information will be quite valuable. im in the process of comparing found data. but one kit to the next offers completely separate bends and number of pipes. wish I could find a site that says "hey you. you need THIS!" who here changed out their inter cooler with a 2.5 inlet/outlet. what type of pipes did you use. how many pipes and what were the degree of bends that fit your stock routing locations w/o major modification. also what are the core dimensions of the 7mgte stock inter cooler. that would be helpful. probably come across it tho once i start looking for it. thanks

what kind of intercooler are you getting. I Know that HKS has an intercooler kit that is a direct fit replacement over the stock one.

Will these pipes fallow my stock IC pipe route x2 45 degree x2 90 degree x2 180 degree x2 straight.. 2.5" hes a little more info on what i gathered doing some searching. I heard that fitting a 32x12x3 will leave about 2.5" on either side. a tad large for my purpose. fits right up against the top tho. 25x11x3 fits w/o modifications. Im just looking for something better then stock. that fits w/o relocating parts or drilling larger holes for the pipes. anyone know of the dimensions and pipes for this? If you search ebay for pipes there not gonna be direct fit. just random section of pipes that im going to have to cut and fit myself. not able to do this tho. anyone use a universal intercooler + piping? I suppose if I would get a universal kit I would have to Cut the pipes myself
