HI all.. I'm new on this board.. I have not bought the car yet but i have put a deposit down.. I have a few questions regards to the car.. The guy wants 3k for a 1987 supra turbo with 89k miles on it.. Car had water pump, timing belt. and headgasket replace wtih 2.0mm hks gasket not too long ago.. This car is an automatic.. Since i don't have any prior experience to this car i was hoping someone can show me some things to check.. I did the regular check up such as smoke coming from the pipe and all that regular stuff.. I have a few q's of my own.. First of all.. i check the weight of the car and it said 4460 lbs. on the driver door.. WTH !! is this right?? holyshit..Car is really heavy... SEcondly what are the shift points on these cars.. I notice its very high shift points.. Can someone tell me what the shift points are for 1st - 2nd, 2nd - 3rd, 3rd - 4th.. I want to see if it matches how the car respond when i test drove it..Also..I don't know if the reverse on the car is going or not.. Either that or the car is heavy and it takes a little bit of gas to reverse it.. Any recalls on this car? Defects besides headgasket? Car has basic bolt on such as greddy sp exhaust, upper ic with turbo sx bov, intake.. I think that's about it.. Oh and what is stock boost on this car? What is normal and what is pushing the boost level on stock turbo in this car? Oh yea.. can someone estimate what a rebuilt tranny would cost on these cars? Just in case i mean..That would really help alot..and anything else you can think of would be great..
Oh one more thing.. The car has a 7mgte 3.0 turbo block .. i'm located in NYC |

hey welcome to the board
3K is not too bad for a low mileage 87 supra... looks like it's been well looked after and had all the need to be done things already done... bonus i posted in another thread ... "head gaskets" i think the thread was... with a few things to check weight of the car will be bout 3000lbs roundabout mine is an 87 7mgte and with about 15litres of gas in weighs 1620kg with me in it shift points... well that depends... not sure exactly under normal acceleration what the shift points are, just like any normal car i would assume... but with mine under full throttle and boosting alot i eventually taught the ecu to change at 6000rpm under full throttle which funnily enuf just happens to be where my power starts running out so that auto ecu is quite intelligent generally they do need a little gas to get them to reverse... what makes you worry about the reverse? what did it do other than head gasket there's no other majors that i know of really, there's rod knock but make sure your oil is always at a good level and don't thrash it when it's cold or ur just looking for the worst to happen that's pretty cool to already come with those upgrades, saves you spending it hehe stock boost should be anywhere between 5.8psi and 6.2psi i believe on stock automatic 7mgte rebuilt trannies, not sure what they cost over there, not really had my trannie go on me so have never the need to rebuild it lol oh and one more thing... i would certainly hope your 7mgte has a 3.0 turbo head too :P hehe good luck

If your reading the inner door post, that is the weight of the vehicle added with the maximum amount of weight you can carry in it (i.e. people/stuff)
