$400 for a complete GTE engine and supporting electronics? $700 for a complete swap? You guys are just begging for it aren't you? These aren't bargain prices, these are run away screaming prices... the $400 I could understand if the person sold or wrecked their car and now just wants all the crap that's been sitting in the garage for the past 4 years gone... but $400 in labor for an engine swap and $350 for the engine?? Um, no. There's a lot of labor involved and three times more if it's done right.

Key words there... if it's done right.
Sounds to me like somebody is trying to get rid of a piece of junk. I mean seriously, what EXACTLY did the PO do to "freshen up" that engine? Hose it down with Febreze? |

hell for a couple 100 more you could get an ebay engine.. probably more luck with that. but then again if the mechanic is a personal friend of yours that you known for a long time and trust.. i might do it. but not without insurance of some sort. is this a case of "you get what you pay for" or is it a friend helping another friend?

You would be correct the guy wrapped the rear end around a tree and pretty much everything in the front is in good shape. He just wants the grim reminder gone so 400 bucks is what he told me. I drove his car before and it ran strong boosted fine.

shoot do it. if it ends up being a crapper.. you could probably make your 700 back by parting it out.
