Slipping clutch? Help Please
Sorry im new to the forums so excuse me; i just bought a 91 NA Supra which has 187.5k on it and the clutch is slipping in first. I am going to replace it and the mechanic is going to charge as much as $850 for the(clutch disc, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, pressure plate, resurface the flywheel, replace tranny mount, replace fluids and the rear main seal which is leaking) including labor. Im guessing that it was oil contamination from the rear main that caused the slipping. Do you guys think that this is a good price? Also, another question- when driving in 5th gear the rpm are over 3k @70mph-is this normal? I'm used it being under around 3k in other cars. Anyway i still love this car!

That's a fairly good price actually, IMO. I'm used to hearing closer to $1K, but I've never paid anyone to do a clutch nor have I ever looked up a quote.
The RPM you're seeing sounds about right. With the N/A's 4.30:1 differential its RPM are quite a bit higher than those of a 5 speed GTE with either a 3.91:1 or 3.73:1 diff. At 3000 RPM on OEM sized tires (properly inflated and all that) you'll be doing 64MPH (yes, your speedo's going to be off a bit ).

$850 is decent but it does not hurt to check around. Check out transmission places too if you have not. Also if you have big shops like Merchants Tire near you they don't do big jobs like drop transmission and put in clutches but if you ask they might work with you and do it for a cheaper price than a competitor. Thanks what a friend of mine done it was really cheap for him he save around $120 but it was a Honda not a Toyota.
