I read everywhere about shimming the wastegate, but nobody actually explains it well, and photos would help too. Would be nice to be able to know exactly what you're doing, since it's one of the cheapest ways to add power. I have a good idea of how it's done, but there are a few things that I have heard, but the info is scattered. How much do you shim, and what's the thickness of the shim for 1psi? It would be cool to have it in a table or something to have a way of knowing how to safely do this.

Every good link I find goes to supraforums...of course I can't get into it for some reason to even read  So, I'm left looking elsewhere...

I recently bumped into a MkIII owner who had a pretty tuned vehicle. I bought his HKS downpipe off of him for $80. Anywayz, We talked talked for a while and I was telling him how I recently purchased my vehicle and I'm in the infancy stage of my topend rebuild. I mentioned that I wanted to shim my wastegate but he strongly advised against it due to frequent and unpredictable boost spike and creep.

This is the 1st I've heard someone tell me anything negative about shimming. All over forums it seems like this is a preached method of gaining easy boost. Even in the link it states it's safe. For a forum to condone a bold statement like that, says a lot, meaning there is much more than one person backing it up. I'd rather be safe than sorry, but I am really tempted for going with cheap and easy power. Is there anyone that agrees or disagrees? Opinions?

my car would only hit 4 to 5 lbs so i shimmed it now goes over 8 (i think, needle above 8 lbs) its like a new car. i think it can hang with my mach. oh not to highjack but isnt are cars stock boost around 8 lbs anyways? on that note any reason why i was only hitting 4lbs? sorry not highjacking thread. heres this website http://www.supras.nl/index.php?optio...d=43&Itemid=59

No, you didn't jack the thread dude, this was an old thread I bumped, it's cool. That link you posted is pretty good info, it also suggests shimming is "safe". But it's articles like this that still make me question how safe it is. As for stock boost, it's 6psi. I've heard automatics, on average, are a little lower.
