Default buyin a supra today need help!

I am 19 and dont know much about upgrading a car performance wise. I am buying a 1989 supra (motor is from 87 supra) the person i am buying it from says the turbo has been taken, thus my questions. One, when the turbo is taken off can it cause a small minor oil leak? Two, will it mess up the car if it is ran without the turbo? Three, if taking the turbo off causes a oil leak how can i stop the leak other than putting a new turbo on it? Any and all advice on owning a supra is greatly needed. Thank everyone who looks at this thread and even more so to those who reply back.

There are several issues that one will experience if someone just "removed" the turbo. For instance, that would cause one hell of an intake, exhaust, oil, and coolant leak. What exactly did they do to remove it? And why? If you have any pictures of it, that'd be great to see....

Since this is MKIII specific, I have moved this thread to the MKIII section

Heh, you could pickup a bad turbo core, pull the wheels and spindle, cap the hole for the shaft, run the oil lines straight into one another (bypassing the turbo) and drive it.... it'll run like a half dead N/A.... but it'll run. Someone on here was running like that for a little while, but I can't remember who. IMO, it's not worth the effort an I'm not going to recommend it.

ahh the good ol days.
when i was 16 i bought a Pontiac sunfire turbo. the turbo was dead on it so I wired the waste gate opened and ran it like that for about 2 years. till I filled the oil up to far and all my gauges went fish eyed.
I had to Waite for a HUGE opening in traffic before I could merge. don't even get me started on freeway driving.

Ah yes the "good" ole days indeed. I could tell a mean tale of a certain 18yr old who came home one day the proud owner of a rotten to the core lancia delta turbo, which had no brakes and ran precisely 4 times, but thats for another time!

it depends how the turbo's been removed i.e. N/A converted/bodged which as said will run, but thats about all itll do, or if its just been taken off for some reason i.e. To be replaced or put on another car in which case it wont run and should be treated as a blown motor unless the seller can prove it's ok which will be hard.
To be honest itd be advisable to give it a miss, but i know what it is to be young and enthusiastic and if the money's really good you could take a punt and get a used turbo on the thing if you reckon it may be a goer... Just think long and hard and check the price and other options first, and if you do get it then dont forget theres a kickass forum here...
