Acceleration issue

I've been having an issue with acceleration since I bought my 88 NA last January. It more or less runs fine up until 4k RPM's (perhaps a bit sluggish even) and then it won't go past WOT or otherwise. I'm getting black smoke out of the tailpipe too from what I understand is from too much fuel. The isn't normally black unless you pin it, but it definitely smells rich at idle. What has been done/checked: sparkplugs twice, coil wire, MAF has been replaced, tuneup has been done twice, TPS has been adjusted and replaced. As far as I know there are no holes in the intake, but I'm not 100% sure. Only one error code displays, but it is for the speed sensor in the transmission (another problem which deserves it's own thread in itself.) There is also a possibility of a vacuum leak as I can hear something sucking air when I turn the car off. I'm wondering if anyone has some insight with this problem.

Let me paraphrase everything since it's long winded. Car won't go past 4k under load. In park it will, but black smoke pours out the tailpipe. No codes, and a bunch of stuff has been changed already (AFM, Fuel filter, cat, etc). Has a vacuum leak though. Can anyone help me out?

Well, checked the vacuum hoses and found a hose that had melted in two spots going from the EGR to the VSV. Am going to test it now, but now my battery is dead (won't charge, can't be boosted) so I'm off to buy a new one. Will post back with an update later today.

dont worry about the egr and throw it away and get blockoff plates, or unhook all the vac. lines sepperate the egr in the middle and put a penny in the union joint. You dont need it to pass emissions and all it can do is fail.

Oh believe me, I'm not worried about emissions. My province doesn't have emissions requirements. :) Anyway, replaced the hoses and the battery, and finally got the damn car to run... seems to run better than before. Having said that, it still bogs at 4k at WOT. I can sometimes get past at 3/4 WOT. Put it in park and revved it to 6k and found that it didn't smoke, but the exhaust smells bad.

Well, I finally got to checking the injectors today (resistances, how they sound) and I discovered something interesting. I'm by no means an expert, but the resistances I'm finding are 3.8 Ohms. I also have a parts car (it runs and and is fully working mechanically) of the exact same year also NA and it gets 2.7 Ohms. I think the TSRM is lying or something since it says NA's are supposed to get 13.8, but the 3.8 ohms I'm getting on the car I drive either means the injectors are shot, or that they are for a turbo (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...ection=FI&P=83). I also found it hard to get any reading at all on the ones that measured 3.8. Should I consider changing them?

Still in the process of throwing everything back together. The guy who owned the car before me did silly things with the injector connectors. To make a long story short, I have new connectors on, going to throw it back together tomorrow and test. For anyone interested, here's a youtube video I made last year of what the car does. Note the RPM's in relation to the speed:

Note this is at WOT at 5k, I'm not holding off at all and the RPM's don't rise.

Can't tell for sure if this is the current problem, but I did notice in your video that you have a transmission diagnostic code stored. Check that and fix it and see what happens

The error code is code 61 (speed sensor 2.) Turns out I need to do something special to get it to work as well as it's an ABS sensor on a non ABS car (solved in another thread.) That aside, I doubt that the speed sensor would cause this issue although I could be mistaken.

From what I'm reading, the error code aside it sounds like a timing issue. Have you checked your mechanical timing as well as ignition?
