Default having problems someone please help!!

alright i recently got a 1986.5 supra na 5 speed and im finding it a bit confusing alright here it goes
problem 1 i have no spark i would like to test my igniter which im pretty sure is the problem but my haynes manual says that the igniter/coil setup i have is actually for a 1983 to 1985 model and that there is no way to test the coil from a 86 and the coil it shows is
WAY different than what i have
problem 2 check engine light? is there actually a light because i know in the cars we work on (usually 1990 or newer) if you dont see a check engine light when the ign is on car is off it means the ecm is not registering but ive been staring at my dash for 30 minutes and dont see any engine light just coolant battery oil if you could show me a pic it would be much appreciated
thank you for any help im sure my problems just arent addressed in my manual as its a half year model and that tends to happen

The 7M-GE uses an individual coil unlike the 7M-GTE, the diagnosis is similar to the '86 MKII, IIRC.

Yes, of course there is a heck engine light. It's located with a couple other by the "door ajar" indicator toward the center of the cluster. It is used for checking for diagnostic codes and you're right, it should be on when the key is ON but the car OFF. It is NOT on while the car is running while diag codes are present, except for under a few circumstances, you need to check them manually when you are having trouble whether you've seen the light come on briefly or not. See the MKIII FAQ for a thread with the details.

Wow... I just read your other thread... 900RWHP huh? A LOT less bravado would be well advised if you need to ask questions like this.
