I'm guessing we're on the heater valve vsv here then???
Anyway on my car the bottom connector was to the heater matrix pipe on the same side of the car as the vsv is mounted & the side connector was from the hose from the back of the head. That said if it's been bypassed like mine now is due to a bad heater matrix (sounds likely) the hose configuration could be messed with by whoever bypassed it. pics would help I feel.
