1990 Supra with a 2jz
Hey guys, first time poster on this board (I'm a member of LS1GTO.com) and owner of an LS2 GTO. I have the opportunity to buy a 1990 Turbo Supra (well, the body and interior are original Turbo Supra anyways), but the owner has swapped a 2jz-ge (so non-turbo) from a 95 MKIV and an R154 transmission with the 2jz bell housing in there. He had it professionally done at a shop in Austin, and they managed to prevent tripping the check engine light. No leaks of any kind (including the targa top), full exhaust system (it passes smog), and MKIV wheels with brand new tires. I'm not sure how the interior and the exterior look, but I'd assume they're pretty beat to hell. The guy wants $4500 obo for it. What do you guys think? Should I go for it?
If I get it, I'd probably end up throwing on some ITB's and slapping a 65mm turbo (maybe a twin turbo setup...but I love me lots of boost) on there. How much power would the R154 be able to hold reliably? Thanks! |

The r154 can hold tons of power, More than the internals on that 2jzge could. 45oo sounds like a reasonable price, you would pay at least that much to have a a shop do the swap for you, plus the price of the car ect.

Whats a reasonable number to get out of the 2jzge on stock internals (reliably, anyways)? 400 hp? 500? |

I know that the gte motor can handle between 700 to 800 on stock internals. I wouldnt push that on a ge tho, especially if you dont know how the previous owner treated it. IF you wanted to go turbo, I would suggest buying all the turbo parts you want, and pull the head off have it checked, ad also take a look at the block whilel the head is off. But 400 to 500 should be fine, as long as the engine is in good shape.

i have the same set up mention above with a t3/t4 turbo i did 370whp on 11psi, the weak point would be your tranny unless ur willing to spend on a good clutch 2jzge can hold a bunch, i said 600whp to 700whp with supporting mod and a good standalone ecu
