The only way to tell if your car is running lean is to use a wideband O2. Not having an O2 sensor is bad replace it. On turbo cars it isn't uncommon to have the EXHAUST side of the turbo glow after running the car hard. A lean condition will cause EGT to rise above normal. Hope this helps.
