Stock Oil Pressure Gauge
Has anyone found out about how accurate the oil pressure gauge is? I just wanted to know to make sure the right psi is flowing. The gauge is hard to judge since it goes to 120psi and 40psi is over halfway up on the gauge.

your probably gonna see at best 15psi at idle and that is high your gauge will read higher than that always though as most companies dont want to hear complaints about low psi so they just set the gauge to about 30 at idle and call it good unless your psi actually does drop but from what ive heard the 7ms run about 75-80psi max on an actual gauge and the gte is even lower around 4-5000 rpm you might see 90 on a cold day and cold start but other than that your gauge is showing you what you want to see not what you need to see ... atleast as a general statement i havent checked our gauge yet as my stock gauge reads 0 all day but my aftermarket reads 8-11 at 600rpm idle and about 55 at 4-5000 |
It's really best to just think of the stock gauges as dummy lights... if they move away from the "normal" range you should freak out... but you really should test with a reliable calibrated gauge to see if it is at least reporting close to accurately.

Yeah thats what I figured since the tsrm says to attach a gauge to the engine. So I won't be worried as long as the pressure goes up as the rpms rise. Thanks

ok, so i dont wanna sound stupid or anything, but when the cars warm and at idle, the gauge reads "zero" and then when i give it gas it goes up. is this normal? or should it be at the "normal" area all the time?
