What do these switches really do, i found a website that explained it a while back but forgoten it , Some say that the ECT works like the Honda V-tec, and produces alot more power by increasing everything really quickly, is this correct? some say its for heavy weights attached to the car for the automatic gearbox to cope. please explain. many thank you's. sorry if it sounds stupid just confused lol

overdrive that allows you to travel at high speeds at lower rpms...thus saving gas etc. if you were going 130 mph in 5th ud maybe go like 6k rpm...but in overdrive u could do it in 4k rpms. well i jus made those numbers up but a z06 vette can do 171 mph at 4250 rpms in overdrive. but in a normal gear itd be redlining
"evolutionm.net " best start using that with petrol prices B) going to look about ECT now, anyone? |

alright.... To truely control your auto tranny, you'll end up using these buttons a lot to shift it better.
4 speed tranny, overdrive is 4th gear, if you turn it off, it will ride in 3rd. ECT is a bit more involved than that though, if you're on economy, you'll only downshift one gear when you floor it, with it in power mode, you'll downshift two gears, and also hold the gears a lot better, it's like having a shift kit You can also control it manually, but that is generally not accepted as a good idea as it increases pressure and heat in the tranny... |

When in 'sport' mode, it raises the shift point 800rpm's for the same throttle plate position (where your foot is on the pedal).
e.i.: if your trans upshifts in 'normal' mode at 2K rpm, in 'sport' mode it will shift at 28k rpm. It puts you more into the power band of the engine, thus 'feeling' like you have more HP's. Sport mode is all I drive in, because this 'fat pig' needs to keep up with those 'mothers' in the SUV's and minivans.
