Buying a used spoiler- any precautions?
I have been looking for a OEM spoiler to put on my Supra. I have found a few in the $75.00 - $50.00 range. Are there any tips I should know?
One of the spoilers has a broken bolt?. I can extract broken bolts on most things or at least use a time-sert if the removal gets ugly. I am not at all familiar with the mounting setup but it looks pretty straight- forward. What do most people do with the 3rd brake light mounted inside the hatch? Which 3rd light do you use, the one on the spoiler or inside the hatch? Thanks |

i personally like the look of the cars without any spoilers, but if the spoiler covers the hatch i would go with the spoiler light, if not go hatch
i wouldnt buy any body parts that have broken bolts either, i imagine that the rest of the bolts are old and corroded on it alos. go look at a few and then see what one requires less work, then lowball the guy because its a wing, for a 25 year old car...

I also prefer the Supra to be wingless. I do like the way the 3 piece spoiler looks on the cars but I would never add one just because. I don't like drilling unnecessary holes in my body. This would require that. Also to find where you have to drill holes might be a little tricky. but i would try taking a paint marker or something and paint the bottom of every bolt then set it into place and lift it up and you should have your holes marked and ready to drill.

I failed to mention that my car has 4 bolt hole plugs and another I assume is for wiring, that is capped off.
Good advice on the potential problems with that particular wing. Waht is the deal with the 3 pc. What years are we talking about? Why is my car blanked out on the bolts, was it an option that someone did not to take? Will any MK3 spoiler fit? Are all the MK3 spoilers the same? Questions, questions....I am not 7 years old. I just don't know much. Be glad to field any bike questions. Very cool getting to talk to you all. Thanks |

Well if yours has holes that are plugged either someone had the pre 89 spoiler on it at one time or they had an aftermarket one mounted. So you could just get another pre89 wing or if you get the 89-92 three piece I'm not sure if the main part that bolts to the hatch has the same bolt hole positions as the three piece. With the three piece you'll have to drill holes into your rear quarters to mount the two side pieces.

My bad, It is a 1986 with a 3.0 NA. If you zoom in on this picture you can see the plugged holes. They look very factory to me but I don't really know much about the history of the Supra. Any thoughts? I can provide better pics if needed. I really don't want to add any holes, really after looking around I understand the comments on having no spoiler. Seems like all the newer mid size cars have them these days.

Well if you don't want to drill anymore holes I would recommend you just get a pre-89 wing. That way it should bolt right into the holes that are plugged in your hatch. If you want one I want to get rid of my red one because I happen to like the spoilerless look better. Mine is in perfect shape and I would sell it for $50 plus shipping.

Send me a pic when you get a chance. So were all the pre 89 models spoiler ready like mine? I realize some cars came with them. Has anyone installed a spoiler onto a car that had the plugged holes? Just wondering about the 3rd light situation. The 3 pc is after 89, correct? And they can be installed but would require drilling? Thanks

yes 89-92 would require drilling. And perhaps your car did at one time have a spoiler thats why there is plugs.
