The housing on the factory turbo appears to be cracked on the inside, any cheap options to fix it, or swap it out with?
What can I use to clean out the factory turbo? Thanks, Alex |

It's pretty common for them to be cracked, it just depends on how bad the crack is. What you really need to inspect is the freeplay in the turbo, and if it has any bent or broken blades. If it's out of spec, it has to be rebuilt...
Cleaning it out...I don't think much would hurt it, but I honestly don't know... |

Are there any good candidates for a swap? How freely should a turbo spin when I turn it?
This whole turbo thing is very new to me, but I can't wait to drive it again! |

I read up on one site about having the turbo sent out for enlarging and bigger wheel. I guess I will look into having this stuff done while the head is off the car. Whats the stock turbo good for PSI wise?

Stock turbo is good for at least 300hp to the wheels. If you get the mod for the turbo, you'll have more lag, beware...

Greddy makes a good replacement turbo for the MKIII it is a liitle on the costly side. Sound Performace also has a few replacement turbos and they give you the choice of an internal waste gate or external. The turbos from Sound Performance start at around $1000. Both companies reuse the stock turbo manifold and down pipe so installation is simple.

summit racing sells the turbo manifold, by turbonetics. as for the turbo assembly its going to have to be a t4, since turbonetics sells it with that flange. t4s range from 600-1200 internal wastegate. yes, there will be lag, but what you gain in top end power will be forgiven.
