HELP! Suspension Mods on 86.5 and 16" Tire Sizing Advice *FREE*
I need new tires on my 86.5 that will work with 16X7 rims. I am searching threads and could use help making a final decision. I want to lower the suspension for better handling. My recent mountain run revealed a good bit of body roll making it hard to hold your line in longer corners. I watched a old Supra commercial, even new it looks as though the body rolls over pretty good., the stock shocks are most likely shot.
Here are the facts; 1) Daily driver, I love this car. 2) I want better handling but not a abusing ride, if possible. I am really physically beat up from the sudden stop that occurs at the end of a motorcycle crash. Several violent crashes over the 35 years. 3) Money is tight. Is usd stuff a good idea? Seems a little risky to me. 4) I like the idea of running a wider rear tire, do the rims need to be wider to do so? 5) The current 225/55-16 tires are just to get it on the road, their bad. What would you recommend for suspension mods and tire sizes? Where would you buy them? I appreciate all your input. Thanks

There are a few options for the suspension that you can do, but it all depends on the money you want to spend. The cheaper way to go is to get some good lowering springs and new struts. I have eibachs and kyb GR2s which give alittle harsher ride than stock. You can also get some bigger diameter sway bars that will give better steering response. And if you need or choose to you can do the control arm bushings. As far as wider tire, you could go a little wider say 235 but the wider you go the more expensive they get. Most people with the wide tires in the rear are pushing higher hp numbers than stock.
