should i get a 89 mk3??

okay my buddy is selling his mk3 for 500 the only thing wrong with it is the bearings i dont know what model it is but its turbo. i know none thing of these cars. are they fast?reliable?cheap? it would be nice if you guys could help me and also i own 2 dsms so i know bout turbo cars and how they work
