What to do with my supra?
Sup guys, got my 89 supra parked in the garage for quite some time now, suspect problem is cracked head and did not want to deal with that shit, now I got the funds for it...
My question is, should I suck it up and fix the head, or get a new engine? What kind of effort am I looking at to swap out with a, say, 2JZ engine? (bearing in mind I know nothing about cars and all labour will have to be done by mechanic). Possible to convert to manual meanwhile? Last edited by sandgroper; 05-26-2010 at 09:00 AM. |

Hmm kk thanks, something to think about if I have to spend a grand or two making up a new head. I've already done that once, not so keen on doin it again...
by the way, the exhaust is 5inches, with 3 going to catback, used to be 5 all the way through, but nowhere in my town is there a workshop that will make up to 5 inches, is this causing a loss of power or is it not a big deal ? Last edited by sandgroper; 05-27-2010 at 02:39 AM. |

turbo or NA..to wide an exhaust on an NA and the loss of backpressure could loose you bottom end rpms. iirc.

nah turbo, stock.
however, its output seems real low. the boost gauge on the dash that came standard with the electronic dash hasn't moved from zero PSI in the 5 years I've been drivin it lol, not sure whether its the meter that doesn't work or the turbo... Ah well found a guy who will look at the head and prob fix it next week, after that should be smooth sailing, just gotta get new shockies after that and replace all hoses in the engine lol... been on the to-do list for quite a few years now! |
