Lock the car up with the key and unlock again using the key on the passenger side or the trunk. The sensor on the back of the cylinder goes bad with age and may not register the disarm signal.

what years and models had the alarm system? I'm guessing 88+ cuz my 87 dosent have one.

since were on the topic of alarms. I went out to go to work and hopped into my supra the other day and it wouldnt turn on.. dead battery like.
Knew it was the alarm. locked then unlocked the door and it started right up.. second day I went to go to work again and this time locking and unlocking didn't work. i d/c the battery for a moment then unlocked and it started up. Man I hope my alarm isnt going bad. has not done it since. (4 days later)

Mine did that and I locked it and unlocked it with the pass door now I works fine

yea they get funky from time to time for no reason. just odd i had it happen 2 days in a row.
I should try basic troubleshooting methods if it happens again to see what the source of the problem might be.

My 86.5 does.

All USDM had them... I don't think all years of Canadian issue or other markets did.

oh ok i have a jdm supra true 87 =D

kadinz 06-02-2010 04:30 PM

im following you wstanek! haha.

i actually just finished my solution to this problem this morning.. i cut the negative from the starter going to the alarm thingy majigger and basically, wired it to the strut mount(idk, did it quick and couldnt think of any other places) and than spliced a switch in there and bam! you got yourself a cool starter kill switch!

89 MKIII 06-06-2010 01:14 AM

okay i tried the unlock and lock from the passanger side and she still wont start. i replaced the starter about a week b4 the alarm went off. could tht have anything to do w/ it.

batmmannn 06-06-2010 01:31 AM

Nope

Starter swap would not have anything to do with it. Did you try disconnecting the negative cable to the battery terminal for 20 mins and then reattach to reset the computer?

89 MKIII 06-07-2010 04:52 AM

Yea

Ive disconnected the negative cable for 20 minutes. and as soon as the negative cable touches the negative terminal the alarm starts to go off again.

Sonyps307 06-07-2010 05:21 AM

U need to have the ground on first I think and it should go off

89 MKIII 06-23-2010 05:41 AM

Yes!!!!

Okay so i got frustrated bout my car not startin, so i went to the beach to relax and brain storm. i was there for a week and of course when i got home i went outside unlocked the door got in and she started right up, dont know how and not really concerned about it. so to everyone tht gave me advice i deeply appreciate it.

batmmannn 06-23-2010 06:51 AM

Ooops

Unfortunately it will more than likely happen again sounds like that frustrating alarm problem, my Dad has the same thing on his. Don't get freaked if it happens again.
