Cool Exhaust Project

well guys im back with another edition of ("__Project")...my last project was the transmission and that has been a pleasure to experience...now its time to move on

this is what i have
1)cx racing mandrel bend manifold, stainless polished steel
2)cx racing flexible 3in downpipe with extra o2 bung for wideband gauges
and last but not least 3) blitz nur cat back exhaust attached to a test pipe

i wrapped the downpipe and manifold with thermo tec insulating wrap topped off with thermo tech hi heat paint....to fill the extra o2 bung i got glowshift w/b, a/f gauge

ill keep you posted

The wrap job on the downpipe looks good but the manifold I would redo. You really need to take your time and wrap it tight. If you are having trouble with using 2in I would use 1in to wrap it tighter. And paint it first then wrap it and then seal it and then bake it in the oven. Or better yet just get it ceramic coated(the best way). I wraped mine and did'nt notice any real drop in temperature.

what do you paint it and seal it with? oh and to comment on the cx racing downpipe.. the turbo elbow connected to the dp is a great idea i think. eliminating one more gasket is always a plus i think. but the placement of the extra o2 bung on the elbow for the wideband is bad (so they say) the heat from the turbo + exhaust kills the wideband sensor. I have heard a big NO on putting it there then from the other half of the people i spoke to they said it really didn't do any harm.. so use it at your own risk. Personally I would just leave that bung blocked off and make a new one in the CORRECT placement. 10 to 2 o-clock on the downpipe its self far away from any major heat.

I painted mine with high temp paint and sealed it with the high temp silicone spray that came with the wrap. It smoked for a while but has stopped now and seems to have worked well.

Have bosch wideband sensor, doesnt it resist heat as good as the oxygen sensor? Yea the manifold isnt as wekk done but would it make a difference?

Default Why

Just curious, what is the point of wrapping and sealing and painting? Is there some inherent problem with the exhaust? Scott

thE heat wrapper is designed to keep the temperature within the manifold or downpipe at a constant level of heat, because is less dense it moves faster and the more air you got out the more air you could get in. It also helps keep the engine bay cooler by restricting the heat to escape.

Yeah the better you wrap it the better the wrap will insulate and look better. I'd try to get it around each runner.

As far as the manifold is concerned i wrapped each individual pipe, twice. The only part that came loose was when i want to wrAp the 3 pipes. I tied them together by pulling out their threads. Its not best but the layering is there so the key purpose of it should be active.

bosch is the end all names when it comes to sensors. but I still wouldnt risk it. but crap give it a whirl you can get a replacement for about 30 dollars if it does fail you. probably make cx racing pay for it too. go ahead and Gp it for the forum. report back in 6 months with your findings.
