what are these fans for?
hey guys on my car mounted to the fan shroud there are two little white plastic fans that have two wires going to them does anybody know what they are for thanks.
|
A/C condensor fans.
|
hmm mine turn on from time to time if its really hot out. I just thought it was part of the cooling system.
|
Cool thanks for the info hey have you guys looked at my other post if not will you and do you have an opinion on what the problem might be thanks.

There are actually three A/C related fans on the GTE, one push fan mounted on the passenger side and then the 2 little (only one on pre89 MKIIIs) ones on the driver's side.

Yeah I don't see a third one just the two on the drivers side maybe thats why my ac will not work.

I have a targa top. no need for ac here. |

in all it was a good pile of weight and it cleans up the front and front engine area alot |

Does your A/C come on at all? If it's low on refrigerant there's a low-pressure switch which will keep the compressor clutch from engaging. |
These three fans have essentially nothing to do with how well the A/C works, best to think of them more as additional cooling for the engine to compensate for the increased load. The condenser fan (the 12" supplemental fan only on GTE equipped MKIIIs) does help the A/C but it's not going to keep it from working. The pre89 MKIII only had one of the small (5" or so) aux fans (it's white and right next to the main cooling fan).

Yes I have a belt on it.I will check on the coolant do you guys know where I can get a conversion kit if it runs the old coolant that is the other thing I was wondering about.
|
I have a targa also but I live in North Carolina and even with the top off it still gets boiling in the car sometimes, depends on how high the humidity is that day.

if its still hot with the targa off ur not driving fast enough! =D

With the car running the way it is now getting it fast enough might mean walking down the road instead of driving LOL

Electric fans
Mine is an NA, I only have one fan like Cre stated and I have yet to see it run. My ac belt is not hooked up cause I didn't care about the AC at this point. Will my one fan still operate in real hot weather?
When should it turn on in an NA? OK I have ordered a new fan relay. Lets see what that does for my temp problem. Thanks, Scott |

Fan
According to my research it is also for the engine when it reaches a temp of around 212 degrees. It would be used regardless of the AC but certainly the AC being on would increase temps so the fan would be activated.
