Running higher octane (running at least 91 octane is recommended for our engines anyway) reduces the chance for detonation, but it's not a replacement for a functioning EGR system.

I've talked to many people out there running without them just fine for a long time. I'm not saying its right but its not going to kill the motor by any means. You can get 93octane at the pump as well as octane booster if needed. Or just find a egr its your choice. I'd replace that heater union. They are still aval. at toyota for not that much. I got mine for arount 25 for the couple pieces.

Unlike other vehicles the EGR does dick to the power band, helps with fuel economy and lowers combustion chamber temps a LOT. Running premium fuel doesn't do nearly as much as the EGR does to reduce detonation and knock. If you do run without it I recommend running a richer tune with a little less ignition advance... or a JDM ECU. It's not terribly likely it's going to kill things, but personally, I got sick of losing that kind of bet a long time ago.
A new oil pump would be BRILLIANT! Standalone which uses the stock harness and electronics: AEM EMS

no, canada uses a different octane standard... you need to account for the different scale.
