Oil on spark plugs
 

My car has been misfiring at random times during the last week or so. Decided to take a look today, and found a small pool of oil around spark plugs 1/2 & 5/6, pugs 3/4 were unaffected . I cleaned the area as best I could and pulled the plugs, and the were covered with motor oil (may leaked down since it was hard to clean it all). I didn't see any leaks from the valve covers (had the gaskets replaced about 2-3 years ago). I'm going to take another look tomorrow, but what do you guys think? Any help is appreciated

That's your #3 gasket leaking in the plug galley. Easy to replace with the OEM gasket, or you can use generic washers/gaskets of a size I can't recall right this moment :o . Just pull the bolts which hold that gasket on and replace, should resolve the problem of oil getting into the plug galley and shorting your plug wires.

BTW, the four bolts you have to pull are 14mm allen head bolts. The gaskets I mentioned earlier (if you don't want to go with a new #3 cylinder head gasket) are oil drain plug gaskets. Take one of the bolts with you to a auto parts place and find a suitable size.

You don't need to replace the 4 plugs. On mine I did away with the spark plug valley cover and just reinstalled the plugs with RTV and it has worked very well for me. I also cleaned up the treads well. I left the cover out so I could keep track of what is in the valleys since the coolant plugs can leak also.

Yeah, didn't realize that I had left a couple of words out as the bolts definately don't have to be replaced. Was thinking faster than I was typing. :eek3:

Be careful putting them back in I also used RTV and it worked great I have no oil leaks. Don't strip them going back in and not too tight. By the way guys my red Supra is still going strong!
