looking at getting a supra
ive been looking at getting a supra for a bit now, and i have found a few that catch my eye, ive decided i need one with atleast a sunroof if not the targa top, so ive found 2 for about my price range, around 2k. both have about 150k on them, but have had maintenace done, timing etc etc. both 5 speeds, just one of them is a turbo, and one isnt. what is the difference in power between the two? is there anything that i should be looking out for? unfortunatly one of them has a blue interior which i hate but if i bought it i would most likely change it over to black and then paint the car.
so my questions are, what should i be looking out for? and whats the performance difference between the turbo setup and the N/A setup? the turbo is a 87 and the n/a is a 88 |
IMO, go Turbo. The boost is addicting, power potential is far greater, and they are generally quicker.
To answer your question, they are rated at about a 30hp difference. Keep in mind that whatever Supra you buy, they enjoy spending your money. So save a good chunk of change for repairs/maintenance. And welcome to the forums! |
I would also recommend Turbo with a tiny caveat. People are more likely to "drive" a turbo a bit harder because its a ton of fun. That doesn't mean they will up the maintenance. Also, depending on where you live, the car can have various levels of rust issues. Mine was a very straight car until 2 years after I bought it when the demons popped out. If I had read a lot here, I would have been more prepared.
I have not driven a N/A Supra, so I can't comment on them, but I notice that there are more of them for sale that seem to be better maintained. Thats not necessarily a truth, but thats what I have noticed lately. Perhaps the people who upgrade and mod the heck out of them are slowly eating up all the turbo donor cars? :) http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/supra-faq/3296-buying-supra-what-to-know-first.html <--- This is a good little read. |
Coming from someone that bought an N/a, buy a turbo if you have the chance, all the turbo cars around my area were 4000+ for one in decent shape. So, 2000 for a turbo car is a good buy.

well, the turbo has been sold, and ive found a nicer n/a with only 98k on the odometer, unfortunatly it doesnt have the targa roof, but its supposedudly in real good shape, going to look at it wednesday
