Pulling the engine on a N/A is easy, should only take you a couple of hours. Plus it will make the whole job much easier, as well as allow you to inspect all of the wiring and vacuum lines that you can't see with the engine in the car.

Just swapping the poin pan and oil pump with the engine just lifted is a miserable hell and takes hours longer than it should. Besides, if you pull it you can replace all the oil seals and the mains as well and just be done with it all.

You can't lift the engine high enough to get at everything you'll need to without a hoist... forget it.

They don't have tool rental places where you are? Before I purchased my picker, I rented from a place near where I work. They charged $35 a day, but were not open on Sun. I could pick it up on Sat. morning and return it Mon. morning for the one day rate. Timing it right, I pulled two engines and dropped one back in this way on a single weekend once (pulled bad motor, pulled donor motor, and dropped donor motor back in original car.)
Call around. I'll bet you can find one. |
