7m question
i have an 89 supra with a bad crank in it and i also have an 86 supra both na could i just swap the block and head from my 86 into my 89 without having to change electronics? pretty much just motor mounts right?
i need all the help i can get this will be my first time doing anything like this.....links, diagrams,pics,ex.... thank you |
For the most part the heads are all the same (not true by a long shot, but the minor differences across the several revisions will make no difference to 90% or owners). The only SIGNIFICANT difference is that the GE and GTE have different intake cams. So, YES, you may swap them but if one is GTE and the other GE you may want to consider swapping the intake cams and re-shim so that the valve/lobe clearances are according to spec.

they are both ge so it looks like im good to go then.....i dont have to change the wire harness or anything right ?

I mistakenly thought you were just swapping heads... not the block nor the electronics. You'll need to swap the injectors, distributor and the motor mounts.... there are other electrical differences, but I don't think there's anything else on the engine which is different electrically. There are also differences between the throttle bodies, you may need to swap it if the throttle linkage doesn't reach or over reaches.

i really just dont want to change the harness and i already have one engine striped down so i figured it would be easier to just swap the block and head
