Hey Guys,
Just found this forum on Google, and had a few questions about a Supra I just bought. I haven't actually seen the car yet. Its still in Japan, will be Australia next month. I'm from Australia. All I know is that it's a Black 1989 JZA70 1G-GTE. I don't know what any of those codes mean (I have a Nissan Background). I bought it for AU$6500. Could anyone tell me about the engine, the performance out of that car or if it was a decent buy? Thanks in advance guys, and nice meeting you all. :) - Neil |
errr... you should've asked that question before you bought it...
it's a 2l engine i guess? btw is the price the total cost of bringing it into australia, or just the FOB price of the car? i'm looking for MKIII now, but still not sure if i should go Japan way when u get the car tell here how much it cost in total, and if you are satisfied with the company u delat with maybe i'll go that way too.. |

thats the link to the thread about motors |
Just got it from contacts in Japan. Total cost of it in Aus would be $8000. Came here through contacts.
$6500 after its in Aus. $500 - $1000 for compliancing under the 15 year rule. Under $500 for registration + Qld Transport Bullshit. So the car on the road here will be a bit under $8000. If this buy works out great, I'll try to get hold of another similar and sell one of them off. |

hey :)
it would seem you have one of two problems... you need to find out if it is a jza70 or a ga70.. ga70 = 1g engines jza70 = 1jz engine but as previously posted the info is in that other thread :) |
if you find one with 1jz, manual, black , in good condition, under 12000aud i'll be more than happy to buy it from you :))

the jza70 mk3 supra is a 1jzgte... original.. not transplanted from a soarer
so since you know that it has a 1ggte in it.. then the chassis is ga70 :) and not from a soarer either hehe... toyota did throw around the supra engines into quite a few other chassis tho ;) |

thanks for that. :)
i know definately that is a JZA70 1G-GTE. could it be a JZA70 mk3 supra with a 1G-GTE transplant? in your opinion, this a good/bad car? |
well i do suppose it is possible someone put in a 1ggte
but who in their right minds would take out the 2.5 :o the bonus would be i imagine that you could buy a 2.5 and transplant it in... if it is original jza70 it will have the facelift crossmember & mounts ;) |
k... just read your first post again... it is absolutely completely utterly a ga70 chassis :)

dude its a ga70.
no 1 and i mean no1 would be crazy enought to pull out a 1jz and go thru all the hassle of a conversion to make there sup shittier especially if it was in japan if they destroyed the engine it would be cheaper to get another 1 instead of getting a older 1 with loom and ecu and doing the conversion. i imported a ma70 a while ago fob landed price was very similiar to yours but compliance will be more like 1000-1500 depending on ur head lights if they are orange and silver or just orange u will have to get new seatbelts i dont think that used to be compulsory as long as they were in good condition but it is now a must. if u dont have them u will need intrusion bars but i believe that some generations allready have them again im not sure 100% sure on that. plus ull want beats so a stereo will need to go in. unless u like christian radio on a am station with shite cracked paper cone speakers with a stupid 105kmph chime that wont shut up cause ur doing 130 for 6 hours straight after picking ur import up from brisbane and by the time u get home and go to sleep u can still hear static from the radio and a frigging chime all in ur head. not to mention when u hear a door bell u run and cower in the corner like a nutcase..... oh wait that was me... Have fun with ur toy and good luck. but from my experience 3 gs to play with after fob price and u should be sweet i originally thought 2 would be enough but expect damages in transit especially if it is roll on roll off and like i said a stezza will be needed and other miscelaneous crap. if u like sups then u wont regret it and remember once u own a toyota u can do what u want............................bwarghahahaha  oops another long post......... refer to what i said above :P |
jza70's were only produced from 1990 onward :)

I thought 89 was the transition year |
as far as i knew they were produced from 1990...
in 1989 they produced two 7mgte's... one with 7m crank and the other still the 6m crank of previous years... they very well could have produced a 1jz.. i mean they did do other strange things hehe i'm sure as soon as he gets it he'll take pics for us and satisfy this topic hehe |
DAMN
nope ur right 1990 was the 1st year of the jza70. Was just thinkin he may already have pics as i did b4 i imported mine. But we dont need them now u setteled it its a ga70. U learn something new every day :D |
i'll let u guys know when it comes in. thanks guys for your knowledge.
|
ahhh..i highly doubt that it would be a 1jz because of its age...toyota was only makin about 15 a month in 1989 onwards...
it will definately be a GA70 Supra..still an ok car with an ok price. Did you buy this car through Daren at autoshop? Is it a manual |
