The non turbo 7M-GE has a distributor, the turbo 7M-GTE has a CPS, so I cant see as your findings can say they are the same?

The 7mgte has more than one coil pack on top of the engine that provides spark. The cps allows the right coil pack to fire at the right time. While the 7mge uses a distrubuter and only one coil pack.

You can use the GE's distributor in place of the GTE's CPS in a pinch.... they're both cam position sensors, the GE's just has some extra luggage it carries around. ;)

Oh, I really mean only in a pinch... it doesn't fit well by the PS reservoir or the intake piping.... but it does work.

is it possible to get the cover for the turbo cam position sensor i cnt seem to get it by itself

As far as I know the cover and O-ring are still available from Toyota. Someone makes a polished stainless steel cover too.... but I can't remember who makes them or sells them... might be available through ARZ (the only active vendor here at the moment) or possibly Drift Motion.
