overheating then no starter
So a few days ago I was on a back road up in the mountains and my car overheated. But it didn't just overheat, it overheated then bogged out and died. I went to try to start it and all I hear was a click. So I thought ok so I overheated my starter, then I waited half an hour and the same thing. So we roll started it and I drove it home. Haven't driven it since. So the starter just clicks now when I start it. Problem started when it overheated.

My lingered for years, was out of the country mostly but not long after returning full time it failed for good. I think the overheat damaged the starter somehow. You can take it out and test it or you can apply power directly. If it is ok, a relay must be bad. Have you checked the solenoid?

Your problem could be the starter/solenoid, could be old wiring, could be bad connections somewhere.... Pull the starter out, go bench test it at an auto parts store, and post back with the results. We can help you more once we start narrowing down the problem.

Try this first; connect a wire (about 15 – 20 amp) to the small spade connector on the starter motor, there are only two wires going to the starter, (both are positive) one large red wire which is bolted on to the starter and one thin one that is connected to a plastic shielded spade connector, (this is where your new wire connects to). The other end of the wire temporally insulate for now, turn on the ignition (make sure its not in gear) remove the temporary insulation from the new wire and touch the positive terminal on the battery. If it does start and you continue to have success, let us know.

If you have the required voltages on the starter hot leads I would put a socket & ratchet on the harmonic balancer and make sure that the engine hasn't seized.
Driving one hot enough to shut down is a very bad thing, I have seen many in that condition that locked up tight, sad but true... My 2 cents

something you're taught in auto school, unplug the negative battery and remove the fuel injection fuse/fuel pump, and hopefully that bad boy turns when you take the ratched to it ;;
