130mph surprise!
Not really a performance issue, just part of a road trip...
Last Wednesday I resealed the top of my 7M, replaced the tired old NGK plugs with some new iridiums, added new NGK wires, installed an OEM rear spoiler, did an LOF, replaced the drive belts and checked her her over for a 300 mile road trip to see a cute little honey I know in Birmingham, the car looked great. There is a 6+ mile long bridge just up I-65 en-route to Birmingham and Thursday when I topped the highest span I saw there was no one for a mile or two in front of me, so I did the obvious, I dropped the pedal to the mat to see how much better it pulled on the big end, I wasn't disappointed. When I got to around 130 a HUGE cloud of white smoke poured from the back and my temp gauge instantly began climbing. I started shutting it off and coasting & restarting to get to the next exit. When I popped the hood coolant was everywhere and I traced it back to the W/P weep hole. I called a buddy who brought me a new pump and the necessities to install it roadside. The gods were smiling on me, the W/P shaft didn't shear, the belt stayed on the pulley and I didn't blow the HG! Two hours later I was northbound again and have had no further coolant issues, thankfully. Cell phones and good friends are irreplaceable, especially when you are driving vintage hardware... Just thought I'd share that part of my trip here, the rest belongs on another forum...
