how to tell if the tranny ima buy is in good shape
so im going to trade a set of used tires but still in good shape and 60$ for
w58 transmission, master slave and cylinder and driveshaft is this a good deal? and on the other hand how can i tell if the tranny is in good shape? he said he was gonna put it in his car, but needs tires , windows fixed and to pay a bill..so this is where i come along.. but i dont wanna get ripped off.. |
well for starters, i wouldnt even talk price until i seen the fluid.
if there is really dark fluid that looks really metallic and metal coloured, its probly on its way out. try to find out how many km are on the trans. |
yeah,
i asked him what comes with it why he didnt want it if it was in good condition and if the gears were badly grinded what else are good things to find out first? |

What he said... fluids tell the tale. |
i asked him to check the fluid and he said there is none in the tranny..he said when i install i need to put my fluid in it.
shouldnt it already or still have fluid in it? even though its not hooked up? o.o idk haha what do you make of this? |
I dont know.. this one sounds iffy. There may still be transmission fluid in the trany (trace amounts). Its been over 20 years since I have touched an automagic transmission.. lol. I prefer standards simply because thats how I learned to drive.
If you dont get an answer here, you may want to try Supramania. Their tech forums are a bit more intense than here (not knocking this site..) |
