If you don't want to mess with a lot of changes, I'd stick with the 7MGTE and get your current one rebuilt. To me, that's your best option.

You can get a jdm engine, but not knowing how the engine was ran and what kind of care was given to it by it's previous owners means it'll be a gamble to drop into your car without rebuilding it as well.

Going 1JZ or 2JZ will not happen without having to do alot of changes, unless you have a shop do it for you. And then you'll be several grand into this project.

I grabbed a jdm motor tore it down checked internals for wear, replaced every gasket in the engine, new water pump, t-belt, thermostat and a bunch of other stuff, so after the price of the motor, usually $1000 or so you are looking at adding another $500 plus labor to get it up and going. I did not replace the valve seals and I just had to go back and replace them. They were very very bad. So $1500 min plus labor, if you have to pay someone it will be high. But normally if you don't have at least $4000 don't plan on doing a 2j or 1j swap.

Default 7mgte

I have an 88 toyota supra targa top, turbo charged. I am parting it out. Only thing wrong is small dent in drivers side in front of door. Engine runs fine, turbo works. Email at gwlg82@yahoo.com, if interested in parts. Live in maryland if you want to drive it before engine comes out.
