Default Transmission Question????

I recently found a donor car, 89 supra turbo, high mileage car but i plan on completely rebuilding the motor. the guy wants to get rid of it, he wants 500 bucks, it runs. It has an auto tranny, my supra now has a 5 spd(Thank God). I've read that the NA supra and the turbo supra have different transmissions. My question is, if i rebuild that turbo motor and swap it in my NA supra with that transmission, will it work? Do i need to look for a 5 spd tranny out of a turbo model? Somebody help!!!!!!

It will work...but it won't be as strong. The Turbo tranny is significantly stronger than the N/A tranny, and if you start modding the turbo engine (and we all know you will), you might blow up the tranny.

God, and the think I've seen these Turbo trannys sitting in the backs of Supras in the junk yard rusting...

actually i just did the motor swap and i reused my n/a 5 speed on my new turbo motor and it works great, although i cant figure out how to get the back up lights to work! You will need to get like a stage three or four cluth though if you are modding.

and even with a new clucth the non turbo trans can hold up to like 400hp but the turbo tranny can handle over a 1000hp

I did the swap too, and it was just a matter of finding the wires that the auto box used for the backup lights and splicing them into the manuals backup switch. Have someone help you watch the rear and leave it in reverse until you get the lights to come on.
