MOVED: 1987 supra (RE: reliability of a high mileage MKIII)
I am new to this so I don't really know how this works but anyways I am thinking of buying a 1987 automatic supra with 225,000 for 800 and I was wondering if there is anything I should know like how long until I get a bhg because I know the Mk3'a are notorious for that, by the way I was only planning on using it as a daily driver for now...so if anybody could hit me up with some useful information I would really appreciate it.

I wouldn't consider a 200+K mile MKIII a good contender for a daily driver. I met a local guy here who was asking the same questions about a 200K mile MKIII which had verifiably been rebuilt once and had the HG replaced a second time. It's a nice car, the interior and exterior are immaculate but he's had the replace the HG AGAIN, had to replace the rear main seal, had the transmission rebuilt and so on.... I'm not going to tell you not to, but you better have backup transportation and you better be able to work on your own car.
I'll step aside so someone less jaded can speak now...

The head gasket is a worry but there are many other things that are associated with an old high milage car. If you are not mechanically able and are not ready to put alot more than 800 into it don't buy it. And if you have to pay someone to work on it, it will be a bottomless pit for your money. Also the mpg on a 3600lbs car with an auto is not that good.
