A/T On Turbo 89'
I traded cars and it is an 89' Turbo with an A/T. The shifter is weird on it you have to shift it up and back down to remove the key. I don't know how to adjust the linkage? If anyone has any info it is greatly appreciated. I also need info on how to replace the starter? If anyone could send me some manual pages? It looks impossible to get to, I heard I have to feel for the top mounting bolt to get it off?

starter is a total pain in the ass.
do it what ever way you think you can... i just remove the upper and lower intake plenum, and it makes it easier. if you don't want to take it apart, you should be able to get the lower one from under the car, and then worm your arm inside and find the top bolt. only crappy part is after the bolts are off you got get it out, and get another one in there...

There are a few threads on replacing the starter. Here is a good example.
EDIT: Thread has been trimmed and moved to the MKIII FAQ. Hyperlink above is to the new location.

ok, thank you very much. He said it overheated, but I am sure he put mineralized water in the system. Also there are some plugs on the right side of the engine bay towards the front by the battery? I assume these plugs are for some fans that I am missing? What fans are these I know they can't cost too much. It needs the starter then I am going to track down the rest of the problems from there. I traded an N/A running car for a non running turbo. It looks immaculate almost though. It has had the head redone with a copper reinforced gasket torqued to 75 or 80 ftlbs. The guy drove it till the starter had no life and now just wants a running car. I got a battery in it and it clicked and all the cluster works, so it shouldn't be too bad.
