AEM C2DI in '89 7MGTE + misc. electrical "?"
Hey all,
New to the forums and have owned NA Carber cars my whole life so my MKIII is going to be my education in injection, CDI, Forced Induction, etc etc. Have a question though, has anyone replaced their stock CDI? Wondering what kinds of problems you ran into if any? Thinking of dropping in an AEM C2DI to get some better low end with the high boost pressures. As far as the misc. elec. "?" About when should I consider an aftermarket stand alone EMS? I'm aiming for around 350 whp at the end of the show. Suggestions? thanks for the input! |

Hey while i'm thinking about it, is a metal HG gonna cause me to need to do some tuning because of compression changes? Thanks!

Don't get the AEM c2di right now, it's got some issues that need to be worked out. They have an unacceptable failure rate IMHO... AEM's other products are good, and AEM will keep giving you replacement c2di's, but when they fail the car is dead until its replaced...

Cool thanks for the info, any opinions out there on MSD's 6A/6AL ignition controller?

MSD stuff is pretty good, dunno how well it would work on a Supra though. MSD's DO burn up though, my bro worked at an auto parts store and got them in on warranty all the time...
The Ignition system on the 7M-GTE is really well made, until recently it wasn't common to have the type of system it has. The weak link if the sparkplugs and the plug gap. Get GOOD spark plugs from NGK, and gap them right and it will immediately run better. The plug wires might also be old. You will eventually need a fuel computer and a boost controller to push that much HP, but you'll find that the Supra is pretty well built to begin with and is able to handle increases in boost, as long as the headgasket issue is taken care of. Also, the metal headgaskets are sold in proper sizes, so you won't get much of a compression change... |

dunno about the denso plugs, most people swear by NGK in their supras, but the gap would be the same regardless of the plug usually. Not sure on wires, wires are generally wires, and NGK also makes them for our cars...
