Whats the problem??
I have a 1990 toyota supra turbo 7MGTE. I was driving and yes I was switching the gears myself through L, than to 2 and D. (I wish I had manual). But i was switching gears and I went from L to 2 and my car stopped revving. When i stopped the car and looked under the hood, Now the engine is moved forward and the belts are closer than what they were before. And there was smoke coming from the engine over by the throttle and the spark plug wires. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be?

i dont see how shifting the gears would of done anything like breaking your moter mounts.. that is what were talking about here?
ill give you 300 for your car. ill come and pick it up. |
Im not selling it and I was thinking the same thing! And now it seems like it wont shift gears at all, like it takes of normal but once it hits 20mph it wont go any faster!
|
eh i dont know. you upshifted from low to second. your tranny moved forward and pushed everything in ? lol
ill offer you 250 if you change your mind. free pick up and you walk away with a little green in your pocket. good luck. |
No thanks man! It was a gift from a relative and if i was to sell it wouldnt be for that price! But IDK what the problem is. And yes you can sum it up to that i guess!

perform a transmission diagnostic and see what that yields. http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...aspx?S=AT&P=13 its most likely since everything shifted your manual linkage is out of adjustment. |
TBH if the motor mounts are bust & the lot has shifted forward it could be that the shifter got pulled out of adjustment & that's why it won't work properly now (though if it was my car I wouldn't TRY to drive it with 240 horses hanging free under the lid!). In all honesty I'd call this a perfect excuse to swap a manual in anyway since that's what you want anyway, since the only sensible thing to do if the motor's come free while driving is to remove the whole drivetrain (or at least motor/tranny/prop & visual check rear mountings) to check for other damage such as cracked block/box, ripped wiring, torn sheet metal near mounting points etc as a whole lot of strain could have been put on virtually anything down the drivetrain from a failure like this...
Hope it's worth fixing else green's offer seems pretty reasonable if it's a breaker. |
good information

Don't you have a ECT botton next to the shifter? I've found it will hold it to close to redline through the gears with it on.

yes the ect button raises the revs in witch it shifts.
but what does that have to do with the price of tea in china? lol or are you suggesting he uses it so he can get a tad higher then 20 mph. lawl . what did the auto tranny diagnostic turn out? |
